Sunday February 12, 2012Seven Chances (1925)Jimmy Shannon (Buster Keaton) is a partner in a financial brokerage firm that is on the brink of financial ruin when he is presented with his grandfather´s will, according to which he is bequeathed seven million dollars on the condition that he marry by 7:00 p.m. on his 27th birthday, which happens to be that same day. Shannon, with the help of his partner and a lawyer, must find a bride. Seven Chances is a 1925 American comedy silent film directed by and starring Buster Keaton, based on a play written by Roi Cooper Megrue, produced in 1916 by David Belasco. Additional casts members include T. Roy Barnes, Snitz Edwards, Ruth Dwyer, and others. The film also stars Jean Arthur, a future 1930s screwball actor, in an uncredited supporting role as a telephone operator. The film´s opening scenes were shot in early Technicolor. Their act, one of the most dangerous in vaudeville, was about how to discipline a prankster child. Buster was thrown all over the stage and even into the audience. The Love Nest (1923) Sunday March 4, 2012 Sunday April 8The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) (Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari) Francis, a young man, recalls in his memory the horrible experiences he and his fiancée Jane recently went through. It is the annual fair in Holstenwall. Francis and his friend Alan visit The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, an exhibit where the mysterious doctor shows the somnambulist Cesare, and awakens him for some moments from his death-like sleep. When Alan asks Cesare about his future, Cesare answers that he will die before dawn. The next morning Alan is found dead. Francis suspects Cesare of being the murderer, and starts spying on him and Dr. Caligari. The following night Cesare is going to stab Jane in her bed, but softens when he sees the beautiful woman, and instead of committing another murder, he abducts her. Jane´s father awakens because of the noise, and he and some servants follow the fleeing Cesare. When Cesare cannot outrun his pursuers anymore, he gently places Jane down on the ground, and runs away. Francis and the police investigate the caravan of Dr. Caligari, but the doctor succeeds in slipping away. Francis pursues the fleeing Dr. Caligari, and sees him disappear into a madhouse. Our 130-seat film theatre has great acoustics, awesome leather seating and is definitely the hippest theatre in town. For most rentals, a projectionist should be on duty to take care of lights, microphones, etc. If the film is on a roll, there is an additional 4-hour charge for set-up and tear down. (Movie must be received 24 hours before showing). If a DVD is to be played, there is no additional charge for set-up. (DVD must be received 1 week prior to rental). The hours can be set up with the earliest time available at 9am and, at the latest, 2pm on Monday thru Sunday. Times are subject to availibility. These times are depending on the current movie run time, which varies from movie to movie. For additional information, please contact our theatre manager. |
