Projectionist

GoggleWorks is seeking an experienced film projectionist to work part-time in our film theatre. Projectionist will ensure all featured films are run smoothly and on-time; sell tickets and act as customer service representative for the GoggleWorks Film Theatre. Studio Assistant

Primary Function: to help maintain the GoggleWorks Ceramic Facilities and enforce Ceramics Studio Policies. Secondary function will be to assist in other studio areas including Glass, Wood, and Jewelry. Studio Assistant position is 25 hours per week and includes the full use of GoggleWorks studio and equipment outside of scheduled working hours.

Responsibilities:
-Assist in general administration, maintenance and upkeep of the studio under the direction of the 3-D Studio Director who is responsible for the direction of the studio.
-Maintain a clean and safe work environment for all users of the facility, including but not limited to: hosing floor, cleaning and maintaining ceramic tools and potter´s wheels, keeping surfaces wiped down, cleaning and emptying the sink trap.
-Works with Program Director and 3-D Studio Director to establish and maintain the established work-flow for class projects, arty-party projects and studio renter projects.
-Help ensure that all work is fired in a timely manner and organized for pick-up.
-Administer and monitor studio use and clay use/purchase
-Reclaiming clay for classes.
-Load, fire, and maintain gas and electric kilns
-Clean, maintain and organize kiln furniture
-Oversee renter activity; establish that all renters are using safe and accepted practices.
-Oversee studio interns to ensure that they are following practices established in the ceramic shop
-Transport trash and recycling to correct dumpsters
-Secure facilities when they are not in use, checking for and reporting any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights.
-Formulate and mix glazes
-Perform ceramics demonstrations on the wheel and facilitate by hand-building during regularly scheduled demonstration times
-Attend to emergencies when necessary.
-Attend safety meetings and other related meetings when necessary
-Support and enforce all GoggleWorks policies and OSHA requirements
-Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications and Requirements:
-Have essential physical and mental capabilities in the following areas: Interpersonal skills, memory retention, attention to detail, following directions, comprehension, calculating, reading, writing, speaking, evaluating, mathematics, organizing and innovation. (Must be able to move continuously during work hours and be able to lift and/or move 50 - 75 pounds.)
-Experience in all aspects of ceramic studio work including: studio maintenance, wheel throwing, hand-building and glazing techniques.
-Experience in all aspects of a ceramic studio including firing in the following kiln types: gas, electric, raku
-Ability to use hand and power tools with appropriate regard for safety of operation
-Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed
-Be available to handle emergencies and special situations requiring immediate attention
-Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends
-Ability to work as a member of a team
-Bi-lingual Spanish/English preferred
-Must pass and maintain criminal and child abuse clearances as required by law

Ceramic Artist Residency Program

The Ceramic Artist Residency Program at GoggleWorks is designed for artists who need time and facilities to develop their work in exchange for their contribution of technical knowledge and expertise in assisting staff in running and maintaining the studio. BFA and/or MFA in Ceramics preferred but not required. The Residency Program is enhanced by the rich artistic and progressive tradition being instilled in the largest, most comprehensive interactive arts center of its kind. The ultimate goal of the Resident is to "nurture the arts, foster creativity, promote education, and enrich the community."

This is a one year unpaid position (with the possibility of extension.) The residency at The GoggleWorks Ceramics Studio includes:

-private studio space in ceramics studio with extra shelf space in public areas
-private studio space in main building
-free use of most ceramics facilities and equipment and shop glazes
-collective buying of materials
-numerous teaching for pay opportunities
-a solo exhibit during the year in one of our four galleries and all associated marketing and promotion
-access to affordable housing in close proximity to GoggleWorks
-Duties of the Resident will require approximately 20 hours a week, but depending on the studio load it could be more or less. Typical duties include scheduling, loading and firing of kilns; maintenance of kilns and furniture; maintenance and development of glazes; record keeping. The Resident also may also assist during workshops and First Thursday and Second Sunday events. Bi-lingual Spanish/English is preferred. Position requires by law the passing and maintenance of criminal and child abuse clearances.

The Duties of the Resident include:

-required 20 hours per week, but depending on the studio load, the hours could vary
-scheduling
-loading and firing of kilns
-maintenance of kilns and furniture
-maintenance and development of glazes
-record keeping
-resident may also assist in varied workshops, as well as First Thursday and Second Sunday exclusive events
-bilingual Spanish/English capability preferred
- position also requires by law the passing and maintenance of criminal and child abuse clearances

-artists statement, including reasons for applying for the residency, in hard copy (150-300 words)
-2-3 letters of recommendation of references (names and contact information of people who could recommend you)
-a disc with 10-20 digital images, .jpeg files at 72 dpi, with the image´s longest dimension not to exceed 700 pixels
-each image file must be labeled as follows:
imagenumberyourfirstinitialandlastname.jpeg, Example,
1jdoe.jpeg,2jdoe.jpeg, etc.
-a corresponding list in hard copy that includes the following: image number, title, medium, size and date

No discs will be returned. Notification will be made via e-mail.
