The GoggleWorks Center for the Arts is a community art and cultural resource center for Berks County and central and southeastern Pennsylvania, and is the largest, most comprehensive interactive arts center of its kind in the country. The mission of the GoggleWorks is "to nurture the arts, foster creativity, promote education and enrich the community."

Communication Fall Semester Internship

Includes:

  • Working with the marketing and communications staff in implementing an overall organization communication strategy to enhance the visibility of GoggleWorks in the local, regional, and national community
  • Developing public messages and identifying, addressing and managing potential areas of communications vulnerability
  • Working with all staff in networking activities and to develop marketing and PR programs
  • Attending GoggleWorks events and meetings
  • Supporting the planning and implementing of special events
  • Supporting the communications staff with research on topics relevant to GoggleWork´ messages
  • Observing artists, classes, events to write and implement successful communication strategies
  • Writing and editing copy for GoggleWorks publications


Knowledge/Experience Requirements: Excellent organizational, oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Interest in the arts, marketing, journalism, event planning or related fields is helpful, but not required.

Graphic Design Fall Semester Internship

Requirements:

  • Firm knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite 2, including a basic ability to use Macromedia Dreamweaver.
  • Knowledge of HTML and PHP is helpful, but not required. Required skills include page layout and illustrative techniques.
  • Recommended skills include web design, marketing and photo correction.
  • Must work well with team members, work well independently and be willing to learn.


Description:
The Design Intern will work in the GoggleWorks Marketing/Design Department, reporting to the GoggleWorks Director of Marketing and Graphic Designer. Tasks will include page layout for print projects (eg. postcards, brochures, etc.), updating and maintaining pages on the GoggleWorks website, helping with web marketing campaigns, working directly with other staff members on requested design projects, maintaining the GoggleWorks brand, attend brainstorming sessions as well as other tasks to be determined.

Ceramics Studio Internship

Includes:

  • Cleaning
  • Squeegee floor, wipe down surfaces, clean tools, vacuum kilns, wipe down wheel legs, put away tools, organize kiln furniture and shelves
  • Reclaim clay (pugging)
  • Helping with Raku firings
  • Load & unload kilns
  • Work with teachers for pickup from classes
  • Stack clay in clay room
  • Scrape & wash kiln shelves
  • Clean extruder

Hot Glass Internship (includes hot glass, lampworking ,cold glass & fusing)

Includes:

  • Cleaning equipment
  • Maintenance on glory holes
  • Pipe warmer (scoop chunks, replace sand)
  • Wipe down equipment when needed
  • Separate glass: clear cullet or dirty and color
  • Clear glass from sill and door
  • Change block bucket water
  • Sweep/vacuum and mop floor
  • Wipe table
  • Organize wheel cabinet
  • Empty debris from drains
  • Scrape shelves & rewash kiln shelves
  • Wrap and label projects from workshops
  • Take color scraps from hot shop to fusing
  • Keep tools/drawers organized
  • Steel wool metal lining of fusing kilns

Educational Programs Internship

Includes:

  • Assisting teachers in classes, summer camps, and afterschool programming
  • Developing educational demonstrations and activities for 2nd Sunday events
  • Organizing classrooms
  • Assisting with administrative projects
  • Attending events and committee meetings
  • Supporting the planning and implementing of a variety of educational programs
  • Leading group tours of the facility, and assisting with field trips
  • Promoting educational activities and programs in the community at events, schools, and conferences.
  • Assistance in documenting and evaluating programs

Description: The GoggleWorks Program Intern will work closely with the Program Director, the Outreach Coordinator and the Registrar/Program Coordinator to implement smoothly running educational programs. Program interns will have the unique opportunity to gain real world experience working with teaching artists in the classroom, as well as hands on experience in the daily administration of educational activities. Program interns will also have the opportunity to develop and lead educational activities to present to groups of all ages.

Knowledge/Experience Requirements: Excellent organizational, oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Interest in the arts, education, and community outreach. Program interns are required to have copies of criminal and child abuse clearances on file at the GoggleWorks.
