WW1201B Introduction to Wood Turning

Instructor: Edwin Youtz

Woodturning is a form of woodworking that is used to create wooden objects on a lathe where the wood spins as a stationary tool is used to cut and shape it into many intricate shapes and designs. In this class, instruction about safety and tool use will be followed by practice exercises and designing and shaping of a pair of matching candlesticks, a cup, plates and bowls.

WW1205 Basic Wood Carving

Instructor: Stephen Weber

This class will guide you through the process with lots of one-on-one instruction, covering chip carving, low-relief and three-dimensional carving, wood selection, design and pattern selection, then transferring patterns to the working material. Students may bring in patterns and ideas or they may choose from a selection of carving patterns.

WW1202 Beyond Basic Wood Carving

Instructor: Jim Elliott

Build your repertoire of woodcarving techniques featuring classic relief designs and patterns, from those used to decorate 18th Century furniture to decorative plaques. Focusing on technique, students will work on various projects during the six weeks. Students, please bring your own basic set of carving tools.

WW1203 Basic Woodworking

Instructor: Peter Bird

Woodworking is a very enjoyable and rewarding hobby. In this class learn how to create beautiful objects and furniture using wood, as well as how to read and draw plans about different types of lumber, tools and other materials and where to purchase them. Tool use, equipment and safety practices will be reviewed and students will be certified to use woodshop equipment before starting their projects. You may come to class with a project in mind or we can help you to develop a plan from scratch.

WW1204 Beyond Basic Woodworking

Instructor: Stephen Weber

This class is for intermediate to advanced woodworkers who would like to refine their furniture-making skills with hand tools or power equipment. Each student will design and build a project with guidance from the instructor to help improve skills and build confidence. The class will address making jigs and fixtures, fine-tuning hand tools, techniques for accurate layout, coping with wood movement, solid-wood joinery, using both handheld and table-mounted routers for joinery and more. Students should come with a plan and materials ready to start the first evening.
