Summer Camp FAQ

Q: What age groups are camps designed for?
A: We have a variety of camps designed for ages 6-16. Each camp is broken down into appropriate age groups. The Kids Camps have age groups 6-8 and 9-12. The Teen Camps are for Ages 13-16.

Q: What will my child do each day?
A: Schedules vary from camp to camp. A diverse group of teachers with specialties in a variety of mediums are scheduled throughout the three months of camps. Every week will have different activities in many mediums revolving around the theme of the week. It is not guaranteed that a camper will experience every medium offered at GoggleWorks, however all campers will get to experience numerous art forms from which to express their creativity. The Program Department will send an information packet to registered families with a schedule for the week about 10 days prior to the start of camp.

Q: What do the camp themes mean?
A: Themes are given to each camp to generate excitement among campers. Teachers apply the theme to the art projects being made during the week as appropriate.

Q: What is the difference between Kids Camps and Specialty Camps?
Kids camps are half or full day arts camps that all take place at the GoggleWorks facility. Specialty Camps are full day camps that spend a half day in the arts at the GoggleWorks then spend the second half of the day at a separate facility experiencing additional activities. This year with two partnerships GoggleWorks is offering two Specialty Camps. One camp is in partnership with The Body Zone (Camp GoggleZone) in which campers will experience a variety of sports activities in addition to their arts activities at the GoggleWorks. The second is in partnership with South Mountain YMCA (Camp GoggleWoods) in which campers will experience a variety of outdoor activities at the South Mountain facility in addition to the arts at the GoggleWorks. All camps are for ages 6-12 with campers being placed into appropriate age groups (ages 6-8 in one group, ages 9-12 in another).

Q: Do you have extended care available?
A: We offer extended care every week during summer camp, in the morning from 8am-9am, and in the afternoon from 3:30-5:00pm. Once registered for a camp, parents receive a registration packet including a registration form for the before and after care programs as well as any lunch options that are offered for full day campers. Pre- registration is required and is handled per week.

Q: My child made ceramics and glass pieces during their camp. When will we be able to take the pieces home?
A: Glass and ceramics pieces are typically available 4 weeks after camp. The schedule varies depending on the amount of campers and work that has to be completed. With 8 weeks of numerous half day and full day camps as well as regular tuition classes taking place at the same time during the summer, the GoggleWorks requires at least four weeks to properly complete and fire all work for a particular camp/class. A GoggleWorks staff member will call you when the pieces are available to be picked up.

Q: What credentials do you require of your camp staff, instructors and volunteers?
A: The GoggleWorks requires that all camp staff, instructors, and volunteers have a record of their Pennsylvania Criminal and Child Abuse Clearances on file in our administrative office. Our instructors are either professional artists or arts educators. Our camp staff members and volunteers enjoy working with children and have a passion for the arts and community. Key staff members are certified in CPR and Pediatric First Aid.

Q: Are scholarships available for camps?
The GoggleWorks does have a limited amount of scholarships available for camps. Scholarships are available for a half day camp program only. One per applicant per summer. This enables the GoggleWorks to provide the most access to scholarship opportunities for interested campers with needs for financial assistance. Interested applicants must complete the Scholarship Application Form with all required documents to be eligible for a scholarship. Applicants will be notified by the Program Department if awarded a scholarship.
