Joel Bless resized Joel Bless

Joel Bless

Glasslight studio was founded in 1981 by Joel Bless and Candace Luke-Bless who met as art students at RIT. Joel thought it natural to incorporate glass with light so lighting became their first products. After an evolution of creative processes they developed a method they dubbed “vertical drip casting” and created a totally unique and successful line of menorahs. Candace diverged from hot glass to fuse tiles and tabletops using new and recycled glass. Joel and artist Paul Madsen devised ways to sculpt metal to compliment the glass. Glasslight takes pride in the extraordinary patterns and colors used to create a spectrum of expressions in glass. Recent projects include large chandeliers with multiple glass pieces. Glasslight works are sold at fine galleries throughout the U.S.

Joel will be holding demos for both the September and November 2010 glass trail weekends.

Dan Gaumer Dan Gaumer

Dan Gaumer

Dan Gaumer was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania and studied at the Philadelphia College of Art. His glass has been featured in gallery exhibitions nationwide at places such as the Works Gallery in Philadelphia and del Mano Gallery in Los Angeles. He has also been affiliated with the American Craft Council. Since 1994 Gaumer has been intrigued with the possibility of combining blown glass and pate de verre, a very different process in which
crushed glass is packed into a refractory mold and melted at temperatures exceeding 1600 F. In 1998 he began his latest work, the Core series. The uniqueness of his work is in the use of the pate de verre, which when applied during the blowing process, becomes an integral part of the piece. “I hope the techniques that have evolved will enable me to produce work that is exceptional and expresses my passion for the glass medium,” says Gaumer.

Dan will be doing demos at GoggleWorks for both glass trail weekends this year: September and November 2010.

Mehaffey Louise Mehaffey

Louise Mehaffey

Louise Mehaffey has been working with glass for over 25 years. Long ago, she enrolled in a stained glass class, intending to replace an ugly plastic sidelight in her home. Because her family moved not long after the class was over, she never got to finish the project, but the experience was enough to hook her. She opened the Glass Place studio and has been working in glass ever since. She has taken many workshops and seminars to expand her knowledge into fusing, sandblasting and painting on glass, and she used these techniques to achieve the effect she wanted in her work. Recently,
she has been melting glass with an oxygen/propane torch creating lampworked glass beads, and this has become her focus today.

On Nov 13-14, Louise will be at the Hidden Treasures Studio Tour in the Lehigh Valley area. She is in Studio 1. For more information, please visit http://hiddentreasurestour.com
