Enameling Workshop

This workshop series, sponsored by a grant from the Enamelist Society and Goggleworks Center for the Arts, is designed as an introduction into the art of enameling on metal using copper, fine silver, and steel. In addition to using both kiln and torch firing methods, you will experience: cloisonné, sifting, sgraffito, lumps and threads, liquid enamel, painting, drawing, and printing techniques. Discover wet and dry enamel applications, along with experimental techniques for surface embellishment. Learn color and design considerations, along with the working properties of enamel, and preparation of metals. Gain knowledge about enameling equipment, supplies and safety considerations necessary for successful results. No prior experience necessary. Class will break for 1 hour for lunch.

Experienced students will further develop their metalsmithing skills, taking their designs to the next level. Various topics in jewelry-making will be explored, including: advanced fabrication, complex soldering techniques, stone setting, polishing buffer, flexible shaft machine, patination, design concepts, and tool maintenance, in addition to working with experimental media.

SSJ1401, Intro to Jewelry and Metalsmithing, 10 Weeks

Intro to JEwelry 2

In this introductory course, students will discover the working properties of non-ferrous metals and experiment with a range of fabrication techniques, working with a variety of specialty hand tools, jewelry making equipment and torches. Soldering, annealing, forming, cold joinery, texturing, finishing and safety will be covered.
